Project scope:

A garage conversion to a listed building in Ashby-de-la-Zouch.

Special considerations: Listed Building Consent and Building Regulations.

The works:

As with all garage conversions, the challenge was to meet Building Regulations guidelines within a limited space. In this case, the main floor needed to be raised to allow the installation of a damp proof membrane and adequate insulation to meet the required ‘U’ Values.

The main garage doors were removed and a suitable brick used to form the main entrance, incorporating a new front door and window.

All internal walls were lined with new rigid insulation to meet current Building Regulations. Our in-house electrician then upgraded the existing consumer unit and installed new fixed wiring.

All existing windows to the garage and utility were removed, and bespoke windows were made, complete with double glazed units in the same style as the windows to the existing house.

The conversion was completed with plastering throughout, installation of new lighting, tiling of the entire floor area, bespoke skirting boards and architrave installed to match the main house, finished with a full decoration inside and out.

Merisons bespoke joinery team were then commissioned to fabricate and install a new bar (beverages not included).
