Cottage turned cafe - See how we turned an old rangers cottage into a brand new cafe.
Through the months of March-August, we were kept busy extending and revamping this derelict building into a charming cafe and visitor's centre. The Outwoods is 110 acres of ancient woodland to the south of Loughborough and is one of the oldest surviving woodland sites in Charnwood.
The ranger's cottage was largely unused for a number of years. That is until the Charnwood Borough Council decided it was time to give it a refreshment. They thought now was the perfect time since the pandemic has encouraged many of us to venture outdoors; they hoped this would appeal to those who often visit the woodland. Our tradesmen made sure that the building maintains its historic character.
The Works:
Removing the chimney breast and internal walls allowed us to form an open plan dining area. We also made a repair to the existing Swithland slate roof, and made an extension to the end of the building in the same style to match. The old render was removed and a new render system was installed.
All new toilet facilities were supplied and installed; this is including disabled facilities also. Adjoining the open plan dining area, a new enlarged kitchen was created and furnished with new facilities in which we supplied.
In the front and side of the building, we installed new bi-fold doors which looks out nicely on the new external areas. The outdoor areas consist of a new decking area adjacent to the play area, and an elevated patio area. Alongside the patio area, we put in place a new landscaped events space.
