Project Scope:

In this small building project we were asked to undertake repair works on an existing retaining wall in the Centre of Coalville. Over the years, the existing facing bricks had blown and were crumbling, causing severe defects to the existing retaining structure.

The works:

Retaining over a 1m of land in some places, the wall was taken down to two courses above ground level and a specified handrail system installed to prevent trips or falls.

To the retaining side of the wall, a trial pit had established the existing concrete was of suitable depth to be built from.

A new skin of brickwork was constructed, tied into the existing structure using specialist wall ties and fixed using resin. The cavity was then back-filled with concrete and a specially made wide concrete coping was installed.

Full site fencing was required during the works and traffic management measures had to be put in place.
